Some guy at Jim Pace parts told me that I should just use some silicone instead of gaskets. This didnt seem right to me. have any of you done this? Is it recommended?

i use gaskets for everything and RTV only with gaskets, never alone. a lot of people do use RTV instead of gaskets, but i don't like to.

About the only time that is true is for the end seals on SBC intakes. Never use the end seals, just run a nice bead of RTV, let it tack a little and throw the intake on. If that is the way GM does it now, thats the way I am gonna do it!

I know some acura oil pans use silicon only. No gaskets were ever used for the pans. The mechanics found this out after searching for the non-existant gasket.
