question abut KN filter for 85 trans am, the one that eliminates air box.............

i was looking through the jegs online catolog and i saw the sweetest thing. It was a KN filter that came directly off the TB and eliminated the air box. I so want this part but one problem......it says will not work on MAF car unless converted to SD. My question is, why cant i use this on a MAF car? is there one available for maf cars? I dont wanna change to SD for the sake of an air filter but i really like this part and if there is on available i will get it. thanx in advance-Mike

No you cant do it because you are not only eliminating the air box, you r also removing all if the tubing between the air box and the throttle body. the MAF is located between the air box and the throttle body, therefore u would be removing the MAF by getting an air filter like that. You engine will run very rich with out the MAF

damn that really sux, that thing really would look nice under the hood. I am assumeing there isnt one available that will work? Maybe something that will give u a maf relocaeing kit? that seems like alot of BS though for an air filter. maybe ill just get the OEM style K&N

put a k&n in the stock air box and run tubing underneath the car to pick up cold dense air = homemade cold air induction really cheap,,dont waste your money on slp or any other companys kit.. that tb filter will only pick up hot air from under the hood, you cant use it anyway on maf cars. check out the tech section for some cold air induction ideas
