Other then Block ID

305 TPI vs. 350 TPI (89 and 88 model years respectivly)

I know the 350 I have, on the tranny flange on DS of block says SGI 5.7 GM with a long part number on PS of block

The motor in my car, I cannot locate that # because a wire harness and pipe run over the numbers .

I heard the harmonic Balancers are different from 305 - 350? Anybody know the differences?

Is there any easy method to tell what motor I have in the car.. (it has 081 heads, but they are all built up (differnet rockers etc) and May have been swapped on for compression issues, so I want to see what block is in there.

Any information that doesn't have me laying ontop of the motor burning my hands on the runners again tonight would be awesome!

Thanks in advance!!

Laying under the car, look on both sides of the block, about right in the middle. There will be the last 3 digits of the block number. IIRC mines is 683 showing its a truck block 350. then you can search the net on it. There is some sight I forget that has tons n tons of block info on what year it was made, used it, etc.

on the sides, by like where the knock sensor is, fan switch, etc. The flat surface where the motor brackets bolt to.
