Replacing Fuel pump in tank
Ok guys, I want to thank everyone for all the info on replacing a in-tank fuel pump. My T/A left me stuck Sat, had it towed home 40 miles and $125, not to bad. Pulled it apart Sun, spent 5 hrs. Picked up new pump after work and spent another 4hrs putting it back together. I installed a Bosch turbine pump, it's nice and quite and the car runs much better. The first thing I checked after reading all the info on this site was to see if someone cut up the floor pan. It was untouched!!! The job is quite involved but I did it by myself with jack stands and air tools. The Haynes manual covers this procedure very well!!

yes, you have to remove the sway bar links, unbolt the shock ends, remove the panhard bar and brace, exhaust and heat shields. Lower the rear as low as you can because the damn fill tube is solid on the tank and you have to swing the tank to the pass side to get it out. Buy a Haynes manual, it outlines the procedure very well, It's worth the $20

Just cut the floor pan and pull the pump from the top!! I did it, and read an article in the June, 2007 issue of Motor Age magazine where they replace a pump in a Camaro that already had an access panel in it.

The above suggestion is a good idea if you want to have easy access to the pump in the future. However, you have to be prepared and very careful to take your time on it the first time around so that it's done well.
Also, whether you do a good job or not on the access door, some people will say that you're hacking your car up. I don't happen to be in that crowd, though.
