Fuel Gushing from Charcoal Canister

I was driving home last night after my father in law had finished putting a new fuel pump in the car when it died on me after about 10 minutes of driving. It felt like it ran out of gas (the fuel gauge doesnt work), so i went to a station with a tank to get a couple of gallons and when i got back fuel was all over the ground! I popped the hood and saw fuel spewing out of the charcoal canister's vent. i took the gas cap off and it stopped, but now i dont know if this is going to happen again, and what caused it. any help?
ps its a 305 89 TPI auto

Re: Fuel Gushing from Charcoal Canister

Sounds like the vent and the return lines are connected backwards

Re: Fuel Gushing from Charcoal Canister

the top line goes to the throttle body and the bottom line comes from the tank...right? and theres a vent with a cap on it, which is where the fuel came out of. I think the setup matched what the sticker on the hood says, but i can check again

Re: Fuel Gushing from Charcoal Canister

The rubber hoses connecting the lines coming out of the tank to the lines going to the front of the car have been mixed up. They are located at the left rear of the car. Switch them around.
