What size injector?

I just put a 406 in my 85 Trans Am, and I need to replace the injectors. I don't know what the best size would be or the best brand. Some say 26#, and others say 36#. Some say Holley and MSD are the best. I also switched out the 700R with a T-56. I also don't know where to send the computer to get reprogrammed.

What HP is your 406? This plus what are you looking for (out-of-hole) or WFO will determine the injector size. Factory 22# injectors with 50#'s of fuel pressure supposedly are good up to 400 HP. As to what type, anything but GM. The ford/bosch are about the best for the money. It's according to how deep your pockets are for the cost of some of the ones out there.

The horsepower on the 406 is about 450. I use the car as a daily driver/weekend racer. I don't wind out the motor past 6000 RPMs.

My vett had 489 rwhp. I had the stock 22lb injectors untill i changed the cam and heads. I knew i needed larger injectors because my fuel psi was at 52lbs after the cam/head change and after the test run....my headders were glowing RED! I purchased a set of ford svo 24 or 30lb injectors...i cant remember which ones...sorry, I think it was the 30's. Anyway, the svo's are good injectors that work on the chevy's and are ony 200 bucks new! I would ask vader or gudio on what size you need. Now that i think of it, i did have the 30's on my vett. i put the 24's on my Z

The SVO 24# injectors would be PERFECT for your setup!! Since they are Ford injectors they are rated 24# at a LOWER fuel pressure! So with GM fuel pressure (45+) they will actually run like 26# injectors!!
