Intank or Inline fuel pump? Suggestions?

Has anyone installed an Intank fuel pump? I was looking at the Holley 255gph intank pump in jeg's, was wondering how hard it is to install or should I put in an inline pump instead? If I go the inline route, what do I do with the stock pump? Does it just stay in and get disconnected? thanks for the input!

The stock pump does not get disconnected. It just feeds the bigger inline pump. The stock pump can actually pump a large volume, but it can not pump a large volume AND maintain high pressure. So the stock pump just feeds the fuel to the larger pump which has the ability to jump up the pressure AND maintain volume. I prefer in-tank pumps because they are quieter and since the entire pump is summerged in fuel, it the means to keep itself cool. Besides, the factory puts it in the tank, they did that for a reason. More often than not the factory knows better than the aftermarket. Word of warning, it is a pain in the butt to remove the 3rd gen tank.

IF your intank is still good, NOS makes a good inLINE pump that will handle up to 90psi and is designed to work with the inTANK pump!! IF the inTANK pump is bad and needs to be replaced....pull the tank down, take out the old pump, extend the pickup with a rubber hose (cutting a V in the bottom of the hose so it doesn't suck shut on something), then hook up a good INLINE fuel pump!! This will save you the trouble of having to pull down the tank again because the pump WILL go bad again regardless of what brand pump it is!! If you don't plan on keeping the car forever then it may not be a problem for you! You can get a good Accel inline EFI fuel pump through Next Gen Parts (www.nextgenparts.com)!! If you prefer the intank then I hear the Walbro intank pump is a good choice!
