Have you replaced the ignition module?

Does your car have a remote coil? If so, check the wire from the coil to the cap.

Have had both of the above happen to me. The coil wire looked perfect from the outside, but after swapping it, looked in the boot and the clip that fastens on to the terminal had just about burnt in half. Caused exactly you described, but only at 4500 RPM and above.

Sparks a flyin'

Does it do it when it's cold? Sometimes a plug wire will 'heatsoak' from the manifolds, not misfiring while it's not under load because of the lower amount of spark necessary. As soon as you step on it...

If so, change the wire if possible, then relocate the wire.

If you suspect the ignitoin take a look at the
pickup coil, ignition module and reluctor.

Reluctor can usually be seen cracked, the pucoil will have a greenish crud in it, check the resistance as well, should be right on at 800 (=/-25)ohms, when wiggling the wires, also look in the connector to the module for greenish crud.

If you're not really sure of the ignition, may want to change the fuel filter, as well as monitor fuel pressure too.
