Opinions on GM Crate 5.7. Same as L98 Crate???
I wanted to swap out my L98s 350, for a GM crate 350 long block.... I can get it dropped in for $2800 by GM, plus i can get that priced knocked down to about 2,000....Anyway, But i heard from a few people that the GM crate 350s are guttless, how much HP and torque do they have? I wanted the exact same thing it was orgionally and no less..... more would be good, but no less .....
I dont really have the money for a ZZ4 or Ram Jet which is why i wanna stay stock, becaus then ill have to get a more heavy duty tranny, and upgrade the drivetrain, and i dont want to get into all that yet....

If you only want to stay at the same level you are now then why are you swapping out the engine?

OK, I guess I just subscribe to the school of "if it ain't broke don't fix it". But anyway, which crate motor are you talking about? There are a few different crate 350's available. We need a little more information about the one you are looking at before we can help you out.

it is broke, the rings are gone bad... Im not replaceing a healthy block .
I think im gonna do this, a friend refered me to this shop close to my house. I called them, they like working GM cars ... He said the rebuild will cost $2,500 and thats for a rebuild, bore it .30 over (350 to a 355), 3angle valve job(or something like that) and a hotter cam, he said when im ready to have it done, we'll sit down and decide what kinda cam im looking for... And then of course, he said if i brought in some headers, he will instale them while the engine is out, no problem... It has a 12 and 12 warrenty... And i think thats it unless i forgot something....
