Umm i smoked a prelude like that with my 89 RS 2.8L 5spd, and all i had was a muffler so if you dont beat him you get no dinner tonight, oh ya the kid was quite pissed considering my stereo was louder than his so his redemption attempt in front of his friend was that sorry assed race attempt.

I had a 91 Prelude SI with an automatic. The car I had was a 2.1 liter (2056 cc), dual overhead cam, the largest, most powerful (at that time) engine they put in a Prelude. VTEC was -not- an option from the factory in 91, so maybe this guy has done a swap ? I can tell you that my prelude would kick the crap out of my car (91 RS) when it was very lightly modified. My wife drove the car daily and we raced on occasion, I only won against her once and that is because she spun the tires badly. I had the car to 140 mph a few times, although it took a while to get that fast. Please do not get me wrong, I would rather have a Camaro any day. Another thing, our Prelude was lowered with 17" wheels and 205/40/17 tires, so there was a little more to get rolling than a stock wheel. Just go ahead and race this guy, you have nothing to lose.... Just keep in mind that they are fairly fast, even for an import 8^)

I believe the 95 preludes were the ones that ran low 15s with a 0-60 of 6.7. Not an engine to underestimate.

I find it very hard to believe that a prelude from 1991 would run better than 16's/maybe high 15's in the quarter. Those things only had 140hp (Si) and probably less torque than that. FWD Imports suck. I don't know why people keep defending them.
The RWD imports are ok I guess.. but too damn expensive. I especially like it when people say things like the newest 300zx TT, Supra's, RX-7's and Mitsu VR-4's are great cars without considering that all of these cars cost more than 40k when they were new. Last time I checked you can get a new Z28 for around 25K brand new. A corvette would be an equivilent american car to these things and C5 corvettes are just plain faster, better cars.

In all the driving and racing i have done. you will most likely smoke that VTEC. unless you have a series 2 carrier and gears,(that means 2.73-3.08 ratio). if you have 3.23 or stouter then you will definately smoke him. and remember the key factor in INTOWN racing is torque, but at the track you need the HP. so do what you have to. and if you get to look under his hood. pull a plug wire or so(extra insurance). lol. have fun and dont get caught!!

OH! We were talking about cars that go faster than 140?
I guess I can tap the brakes a few times to let you catch up. I know it only does 158 with a full tank and a passenger, but it DOES weigh about twice as much as most Hondas, Datsuns, and those other "real sporty" cars. And I can still fit a Honda in the trunk. And it's hardly fair that they go almost 20 MPH slower, since I only have one camshaft and two valves per hole. I would say that you would get the whole shot off the line. But the honda is a higher revving engine and would play catch up near the end of the race. Don't underestimate the honda. Your power band is in the lower rpms and the honda is in the higher rpms. Would be a good race.

So, even if your prelude does pull great at 6k at 1oomph, my LB9 will be pulling even harder at the same speed at ~4k rpms.
The rpm your powerband happens in does not affect top speed nearly as much as gearing and absolute power output. As a matter of fact, except in extreme cases, where your powerband occurs is absolutely trivial. Last i checked, the land speed record for a diesel truck was somewhere in the few hundrd mph range, and diesels have half the rpm range of a prelude.

99% of the Hondas you see out there are a JOKE. A complete JOKE. Some clown in a early 90's Prelude tried to race my Iroc, I was down the block before he was out of first. But that 1% will shock you. Some guy in a '92 Civic with a Integra GS-R motor with some work done got me when I had my t-tops off... Granted he only got me by half a carlength by 120 when i'm well out of my powerband, but there's some quick rice out there. I later found out he runs somewhere in the 13's. Look out for the 1%.

i ran a 15.8 after getting sideways and missing 2nd gear
i waved bye bye at him when i got it into 2nd
v-tech is not that impressive. ford invented the idea of variable valve timing, and it is only good for 10-15 horses. but i didn't think v-tech was around on a 90 prelude. its probably just a sticker

dude, my buddy has a 91 lude Si with some kinda gay air intake and an MSD. He cant get below 16.5. These things are dogs, pure and simple. Unless the rice has a turbo, its nothing to worry about cause we all know that rice cant run N/A. Its a pure and simple matter of displacement. Rice doesnt have any, we do.
Oh btw VTEC is nothing impressive. If it was on an american car, we call it fast bleed lifters, cause thats the same thing. Honda have some stupid computer controled version. Pontiac has been using fast bleeds since the 60's, so honda's little buzz word Vtec does mean crap. Putting Vtec on the side of a Honda is like putting Pushord on the side of an american car. Are you impressed, i have pushrods?

The newer v-tech preludes run low 15's stock.
I don't recall v-tech being around in the early 90's,but I don't follow that sh@t either..
I raced a 98 prelude this summer which had bolt ons,exhaust...he got the kick,we stayed next to each other for about a second or two,than I just pulled away...
I have an 88 5.0 auto,single cat T/A which at the time had few intake mods,timing,fuel pressure reg.
I figure a 90 Iroc which would be rated higher than mine stock from factory,little lighter than mine..should equal an *** whooping against a car that has no where near the power of a newer prelude..still not bad for a 4 cylinder though..if your into that nonsense.

Someday I hope to get around to hooking some kind of vaccuum-operated slot under the louvers and maybe some sort of splitter on the chin. But until then, peggin the dial will be substantially less than confidence inspiring.

Stock Impalas are that slow? My '80 Beat a '94 with a 3.73 posi (stock is 3.08) and a worked tranny. Dusted him by about a carlength by 90mph. All the car has is a stock '88 Police 350, 2.73 open rear, Carter AFB, and full exhaust. As much as I love it, I'd be shocked if that thing ran 15.anything!

it doesnt matter if his is stock or not. I'm showing him that the "crappy" vtec could easily outrun his Impala off the showroom floor! But..........If he or anybody else wants to whip out the "stock" argument, I'm sure he can take a trip to the Import nationals to see the stock based 4 cylinder Vtechs pushing 8 second 1/4mile times. Try to get a internally stockLT1 to do that with it's 10 to something compression

V6 no problem!" HA HA HA HA HA !!!! now my uncle say i should get rid of soopacharga'
and put in twin turbo! so he send two garrit T5 Honda certified dual twin turbos for me
and I just had my good friend tyrone put them in...i want evrywon to know that i am not
racist! HA HA HA i have all kinds of friends! asian, black, china, korean, black, but i think
most peeple in here are racist and hate me cuz i have all motor 10 second V8 killaz and
V6 no problem!!! HA HA HA HA.....Honda number one give you good gas milage and
reliable foe long time and 10 sec all motor!!! HA HA
okey dokey...i was driving around testing my new turbos and getting used to them...i
have so much power i think i can do 8 or 9 seconds!!! HA HA HA HA....so, i am at light
and i see this newer style mustang 99GT i think...ford engine sux and mustang sux and
domestic sux...so i look at him and rev my engine and i honk horn to get his attension, he
looks over at me and see my stickaz and say to me "...yyou cant beaat me in that llittle
pieccc of shiit.." i think he has problem speaking. then i see he has SVT on his GT so i
say "..hey you stupid, why you have somthing that say SVT and you only have stupid GT
what your problem stupid ..." then he say "...mmy buddys at my work putt itt on
becausee i have alll the svt upgrades"
i just think this guy hav big speech problem...but i groe up in urban area so i hav excuse
why i am illiterate...HA HA HA

for junk HA HA!!! anyway, light turn green and i hit it at 5000 rpm but i forget abot turbo
lag...since i have twin turbos i have twice the power but i also get twice the turbo
lag...so stupid GT gets 2 car lenth on me!! but then my turbos fire it up and i also hit my
NOS but with all the power i lose control and fly off road and hit light poll really bad!! and
i hit my head against
window and am bleeding but i look up and see that mustang is at red light so i crwal out
window and run accross street to
other side and win race!!!! and then i point at 99GT and laugh HA HA HA HA even i crash

so i go over to my car and feel littl sad... then i open hood and pick up what iz left of
vtec engine...nothing wrong with engine!!!! just need car body!!!! so i walking home with
my engine (good honda quality) and i will go to junk yard and buy body for 1200 dollaz!!!

I tell evrywon that i have an uncle in the japan who work for Honda racing he give advice
