clogged egr portholes in plenum /intake.
hey i was at the swapmeet at englishtown and i met this guy who had like 50 tpi units, anyway he says the egr holes in the plenum get alot of biuldup and clog, he showed be on and it was barely visible there was so mush carbon in it. if you are unsure of what im talking about, its the two little holes, behind the tb blades on the inside bottom of the plenum, and the small tube in the runners, also on the intake, the bottom has three large plugs that should be removed and cleaned on 85 to 87 tpis. my 85 tpi motor seems to runn pretty crappy, and i looked iinside the plenum, i canrt even see the holes anymore! also it has to be that, because when i removed th intake form the other motor, there was a crapload of chunky carbon right underneath the egr crossovers in the heads and lifter valley. do you guys thing that the egr ports being clogged could have alot to do with funny idle quality? ive heard alot of injected cars are sensative to egr problems. just a thought.

When I took my plenum off to port it out 2 years ago my EGR ports were the same way. I just used a dremel and cleaned them out. That stuff was nasty. Just make sure you blow out the ports with compressed air when you're done so you don't end up sucking chunks when you start it up.
