Changing fuel injectors, do you have to remove plenum?

Do you have to remove the plenum and runners to get to the fuel injectors. I'm looking for any tips or shortcuts for the install.

Thanks, Dave

i've done em twice it's easier to remove the plenum and loosen the runners till they slope outward then it's a ten mm socket to remove the four bolts holding the rails down along wiith the bolt just behind the water pump i just left that bolt off during reassembly no need for it

Yes and it only takes about a half hour.

A half hour to change fuel injectors? Damn, you must be The Flash!

Yes you have to remove the plenum, but you only have to loosen the runners. I changed mine in about 3 hours.

It can be done without loosening the runners, too...

I have to loosen the runners on my car. The fuel rail will not fit between the egr and the runner. SInce it's a ZZ4, I'll probably get an egr block off plate and avoid the hassle in the future.
Remember to but a little vasoline around the o-rings so if you ever have to pull them again, the o-rings don't stick and tear.

Some follow up q's: when you remove the plenum, do you also remove the TB from the plenum. And, where do you get and what type of gaskets do you get get to replace the old ones.

Thanks, Dave

keep the tb on , its much easier, you should be able to reuse the gaskets, if not go to a local parts store and pick some up.

And check the gasket match of the new gaskets to both the runners and the plenum openings. Both the GM and FelPro gaskets don't match very well, and can create a little restriction if not altered to fit properly.

When I worked on my injectors, I re-cut those plenum gaskets out of a sheet of thin, black gasket material. I used the originals as templates, an X-acto knife for the cutting, and a punch for the holes.
