idle "hangs" when shifting"

i just bought a 91 camaro z28 vert .. w/ the 305 tpi and 5 speed ..

it barely ran when i bought it .. but since then ive put a new fuel filter, tps, iac, cleaned out the tb, new pcv valve ..all new coolant lines, fan switch, starter ...

when i shift sometimes the revs "hang" .. and if i come to a stop .. they stay high and slowly return back to idle

i noticed a crack in the hose that goes from the passenger valve cover to the throttle body ..

and the guy at the dealer told me it might be the computer ..

any idea's ..

Go to the DIY PROM forum and do a search on "throttle follower".

Re: idle "hangs" when shifting"

ok .. i looked at that and still nothin ..

i have a stock computer .. and the revs will stay high for a little and slowly return to idle .. and sometimes it wont happen at all ..

could it be the computer or should i check the throttle body for sticking ..

Re: idle "hangs" when shifting"

I was assuming you had checked all the mechanical stuff already. Throttle cable, Under dash interference with accelerator pedal, etc. A carboned up throttle body can also make for sluggish accelerator return.

I think the general consensus is that these cars are typically slow to return to idle speed as an emissions control strategy. I've never liked the way they behaved (drivability wise) in stock form.

Re: idle "hangs" when shifting"

aight .. it must be made that way then .. i personally hate it ..

one of my teachers at college told me that it is supposed to do it... and he said his mustang does the same thing ..

i guess im just used to 4 bangers .. lol ..

i checked all the vacuum's today and replaced one .. and the throttle body is clean and functioning .. and the tps and iac are new .. and the mechanic at chevy said they might be made to do it .. even though it might be the computer getting tired ( im going to replace it soon .. its only $50 at the parts store)

so i guess im worrying about nothing .. lol .. well i was just making sure ..

thx for your help ..

i love this car compared to previous cars ive owned .. and the gas mileage still suprises me for a v8 .. i'll never go back to them high revin imports ..
