Supercharged L98 VS LS1

I'd love to put an LS1 in my bird, but L98's are stock and cheaper. So my question is can i supercharge it with decent results? It'll be a pleasure/show vehical. (maybe a race or two I can't stop myself). What supporting mods would i have to do inorder for it to handle a supercharger?

Or should i just stick with this 85 Chevy Pickup 350, fix it, put the right headers so the starter wont burn out so much, rebuild the trans, and get the right shift cable.
The only thing i dont like about this is the heavy cams, rockers and lifters suck all the vacuum and i dont have assisted breaks.

Any imput is helpful, thanks

For the cost of the supercharger setup, you could have bought an LS1.

Just a thought.

Re: Supercharged L98 VS LS1

yeah but supercharged L98 will be faster than a LS1 that would be stock.... costs for either would be about the same, maybe a tiny bit cheper for the LS1 swap if you dont use a brand new motor

Why not do an LS1 swap, and in a few years, supercharge it

Re: Supercharged L98 VS LS1

Once you weigh in the fact that the LS1 will be getting 10mpg more then your supercharged L98 at the same horsepower level, and will take boltons much better... what's the point? The LS1 will save you a couple hundred lbs off the front as well.

Re: Supercharged L98 VS LS1

I was thinking a whipple twin screw...I like the idea of an ls1 but supercharged just sounds oh so much fun =). I want it to scream bloody murder when i stomp that pedel.

It doesnt have to be stupid fast like you can make the ls1's. So im thinking original with a twist is the way to go.

You won't ever be disappointed with a LS1. If you can afford it do it. In the long run you'll be better off.

ls1s are nice and there are so many people in the world who would love to have them dropped into whatever they drive.... but is it really gonna be cheaper? and are we talkin a turn key ls1? the ls1 needs the entire assembly, wiring harness, *different suspension?*, and then whatever else he puts on there... but if it were me... LS1 FTW!

The cost of doing an lsx swap has gotten a lot cheaper.

If i do the LS1 swap, id find a 4th gen in a auto salvage/junk yard and overhaul/rebuild whatever needs it. I figure ill use whatever i can out of the donor car, cus my trans. is pretty shot right now. and the rear stuff would have less wear on it.

Probaby do the same thing if i were to do the SC L98. Good side about the L98 is i could get it running sooner and then add the forced induction later. It kinda needs to move.
