I have an '87 Iroc l98. When my car is on and I plug in my auto xray Scanner, as soon as I turn the scanners power on my idle will jump to about 1200-1300rpms and drop back to 500 where it normally is. It will also do it when I am stopped at a light and press the power button. Is this rpm jump normal? Is my scanner affecting my car somehow? This doesnt happen on my moms '91 cavalier so thats why I am wandering why it does it to my car.

I dont know if this could be related or not but my scanner wont always communicate with my car. Only once in a great while will I be able to use it. 90% of the time I try t use it It usually just says vehicle not responding. Now I dont think the scanner is bad because I have used it in my moms car alot and It has worked everytime. And I think my computer works all right because If I stick a paper clip in the a and b terminal things on my car I get code 12 and doesnt that mean the computer is working allright? Whats going on???

i have a OTC Scan tool and it does the same thing with the idle and alot of time the car will say +NO DATA+
