Fuel Injector Noise......????

Well, what I thought was an exhaust leak, then a loose rocker has turned out to be my fuel injectors. I used a very scientific method of placing a dowel rod on various parts of the engine and "listening" through that and have come to the conclusion that the clicking I am hearing is my injectors.

Has anyone else noticed any clicking ever coming from their injectors? What would be the probable cause/solution to fixing them (new ones?)? Thanks

Matt

The injectors on TPIs are usually noisy, at least if they are clean. A certain amount of clicking is normal. New/clean injectors tend to click louder than older/dirty ones. Beig a batch fire system doesn't help much either. You have a bunch of injectors all closing at the same time, instead of just one at a time.

My SVO's are very loud. When I first picked up my new 91 Z28 L98 from the dealership I took it back for ticking valves. Turned out it was the injectors! :LOL

Do you guys normally hear them in the inside of the car? The clicking is pretty loud inside the car and especially under acceleration. I've never noticed it until a few months ago and I have not had my injectors cleaned or replaced, ever.

As has already been stated, the injectors can be heard inside the car under the right conditions. The first time you hear it might be a little alarming, but it's just another characteristic of the EFI system.

You may have been cleaning the injectors without knowing it. Since you live in the midwest and in a larger metro area, you may be a recipient of the federally-mandated reformulated fuel, and it might be the ethanol-blended variety instead of the MTBE blend (if you're lucky). The ethanol can do a pretty good job of keeping the varnish out of the fuel system.
