Custom intake?

I want to make my own intake and I want to know what materials I need to make them. ie: diameter of pipe, length, what degree elbows, etc.

u mean a cold air intake i presume..... No one can tell you what elbows and materials unless you tell them where you want the intake to route to or if you want cold air or just lots of air or what....

Re: Custom intake?

i personally like using the factory tpi box with 2 k&n square filters. I would cut the bottom plastic peices out, instead of just the tiny slits that the factory uses, then i would create a square ducting like heater duct to connect behind the fog light buckets sealing that hole on either side of the grill behind where the fog light buckets go.

I stole this idea from another member i beleive he gained a at least .1 in a quarter mile by doing this. You obviously get a lot more air and all cold air+ a ram air affect if you beleive in that (not realy going to make any difference unless u drive your car 300mph or so but, yah sounds kool if nothing else).

If you search for ram air on a tpi i'm sure you will find the post, i havent done mine yet but, thats the same idea i plan to orchestrate with mild differences.

if you want something easier you could cut out the bottoms and find something from lowes for a 90% elbow like a dryer vent that comes close to matching the size of your filter. You still will get a ton more air like this + it would be simple as hell.

if you want simpler yet go to autozone, buy a cone filter and slap it on the end flex hose coming off the tb (if you have a maf sensor this becomes tricky).

another simple option is go to autozone by there universal cold air kit with round filter and buy the elbows and pipe needed to route it in the front of the passenger strut tower where your charcoal cannister is.

Basically when it comes to an efficient cold air setup just use your head, if it looks like it will flow better than factory it probably will + don't get caught up in the fake ram air sort of affect on a street car. Be most worried with the best spot to pull lots of air and then worry about the cold air idea after.

Re: Custom intake?

Well I did get a gift certificate to advance auto. I think I'll just get the exhaust tubing and guess the angle to get.
