I got a a whole intake system (mass air flow sensor, the "air box", the plenum, throttle body, runners, and intake manifold) from a guy that had an 89 camaro 350 and i got a 87 camaro 305. Are these parts compatiable. i know the throttle body has a different throttle cable. and also is there a special clamp to connect the air box to the mass air flow sensor duct?

Anyone?

Re: Intake System questions
The TPI systems are pretty much all interchangeable. You might have a little more ease of install since the 87 engines are more similar to the 89 engine than an engine with earlier style heads.

The main difference between the two engines (305 vs 350) TPI system is the injector size. 19lb for 305 and 24lb for the 350.

You will probably be running rich, and might want to look for a set of smaller injectors. I am not sure of the LT1 injectors but i think they are even bigger than the 350 injectors.

What do you mean the computer is modified?

That looks like a standard '165 computer that the 86 - 89 models used. The computer looks like a standard remanufactured unit from Advance Auto Parts. I bought a computer from them just like that several years back. It may even be from one of the other auto parts stores since they all pretty much use the same suppliers now.

When you buy a computer from them they take your old computer and send it off to get refurbished. Then you swap your memcal out from your old computer and reuse the access door.

I thought for the TPI the 350 had 22lb and the LT1 had 24lb injectors. I could be wrong though.

Re: Intake System questions
yeah i knew i would run rich becasue the whole system came off that camaro and he said it ran extremely rich. would there be anyway to lean it out?

Also i plugged that computer in to see wat my car would do without the parts he gave me and it started but then died. He said before i got it he had a big fuel pump and that it prob wont work if u have the stock one. and it didnt.

So basically it is a remanufactured computer? He said it was highly modified. he doesnt know exactly wat it is. he bought the car from some guy who ran nitrous on it and everything, but the guy that gave me the parts swapped it to a carb so that is why i have all of these parts and i was debating on selling or keep for spare parts. i guess im just gunna go ahead and keep 'em now. Are the intake manifolds the same?

Re: Intake System questions
Unless the injector drivers were exchanged for something with a little less propagation delay and/or a little more current carrying capacity, there is usually not much done to "modify" a stock ECM. The program contained on the PROM is usually what is modified (leftmost component shown on the opened MEMCAL).

That PROM is plugged into a MEMCAL:

That MEMCAL is plugged into the socket in the ECM to control fuel, timing, and other functions.

The ECM is probably a good spare. The MEMCAL can be used again in most cases. The PROM would need to be burned with a new program more appropriate to your setup.
