Making custom 3" Runners
I am about to start the fabrication of new runners using the old flanges. I plaqn on using a siamesed type setup where i will use an aluminum 3" u bend to carry the intake of two stock tubes and will oval the ends to fit within the flange. Has anybody ever tried this? Any words of advise before i get started? Thanks guys...

Re: Making custom 3" Runners
I'm been polishing on mine all weekend , mind numbing task , and I've had a few ideas .
They make a see thru polycarbonate diff cover for dana 60s and corperate 14 bolts , really cool to see the ring and pinion , but more important it can handle the heat .
Ok so I know they make polycarbonate tube in different diameters and with a high temp pad it can be formed , so the shape of the runner would be no problem .
The problem is sealing the ends , I think the end would need to be flared like a brake line and then the stock flanges would need to be milled to whatever angle to match the flare and then an o ring would seal around that .
Why go to all this trouble , depending on the tube sizes available you might be able to increase the diameter of the runners , you could also then drill and tap a hole in the plenum to mount a strobe or colored LEDs .
It's either a cool idea or I've just inhaled to much aluminum dust and my brain has shorted out .

I was thinking that you could take the exsiting runners and cut the inside half of both of the tubes and weld a plate all the way down the center of the two tubes making a mono tube on both sides
I wish I could paint you a pic I am sure that some of you out there can imagine it
I have also thought about taking a brake hone and putting cutting stones on the ends and hookin up a stock intake

I've seen this done on ebay before, looked not so great, but im sure it made for a decent power upgrade.

Yea, ive seen the tubes welded together but it looked terrible. I want to polish them and like the sound of the quad long tube design.

Getting these to mate up exactly is going to be rough. I was going to have my set of runners siamesed using the aluminum from some old TBI ecm's but the guy doing the welding was paranoid they would warp from the heat of welding and never line up/seal correctly.

Re: Making custom 3" Runners
I have done some research in this area. What I was looking at was using aluminum 2.00" diameter u-bends with a 3" radius. These are readily available with a .062" wall thickness. One could siamese them any length to get the length of runner you would need for your combination.
