code 36

Hey guys. I just picked up a 88 T/A with 305 TPI auto. Very clean car with 40K miles. Should make a great driver. It's tossing a code 36 (MAF sensor burn-off circuit). Any idea on what to check first and how to diagnose?

Re: code 36

code 36 canbe set due to high resistancein the burn-off relay contacts or connections, the failure of the ecm to properly ground the circuit,or a poor connection at any of the relays, maf sensor, and ecm.hope this helps, later jimmy

Re: code 36

Well that narrows it down to just about everything. Thanks though. Guess I'll start at the relays. What is the purpose of the "burn off", and when does it occur? Before, during, or after car is running?
