A/C switch

Is the switch circled below a low or high pressure switch?

I am swapping a serpentine setup on to my Monte and want to order a connector for it. From looking on Rockauto.com, it appears it is a low pressure switch - what purpose does it serve? Does it not allow the system to run if the pressure is below a specified level? The compressor I have does not have a high pressure cutoff on the rear of it.
