What kind of power will I have with TBI to TPI Conversion?

Right now, have stock TBI 305...with only a couple mods (4" Open Air Element and 3" Flowmaster Exhaust system) About how much HP and Torque (and what will i run in the 1/4 mile) should I have after I switch to a Speed Density TPI system keeping my crappy cam, heads, and exhaust manifolds? Later on I will upgrade everything else. Thanks...oh and I have an automatic.

Well I believe that in 92 the tbi 305 was rated at 170 horsepower, while the tpi 305 had 205. Hopefully you will see about a 35 horsepower increase :P I believe torque on a stock tpi 305 was rated at 285.

With the exhaust, depending on how many miles are on your car, you are probably pretty close to stock. Mid to high 15s are my guess.

I'm saying maybe 10 hp if anything. The TPI heads probably are a little better than TBI which is why they got the 35 horses along with other changes.

-2.77 Gears (not much to brag about but eh, its there)
-MSD 8.5 mm plug wires

I think the torque increase would be noticed more than the HP.

Didn't GM Tech do a "before and after" dyno on his TBI car when he switched to TPI? I think his torque increased like 30 or 35 ft/lbs, HP came up some, but not much IIRC.

I can't give actual power/torque numbers, but I did the swap on my 91 Camaro along with a few other changes and it was a huge differance. When my car was stock, 305 tbi automatic and 2:73 gears, I could not beat too many people in races, even my Wifes old stock 1991 Honda Prelude SI "automatic" was an even race all the way up to 100 mph. My car was slow, no other way to put it. I swapped to a self ported stock TPI and added Edelbrock headers at the same time, I also swapped the automatic out for a 5 speed trans. I left the 2:73 open rear in there though, so not much else was changed.... I went to the track and ran consistant 15.4s @ 94 to 96 mph , depended on the weather. At that time, the engine was the stock 305, stock heads, and the small "peanut" cam. Hopefully this will help you somehow...

1997 GMC Yukon, 4 wheel drive, leather, loaded, Gibson exhaust, K&N intake, Boston pro series speakers..... That's it so far.

1969 Camaro,12 point cage, total project right now, I am planning an LS1 - T56 - and a Vette independent rear. Pro Touring crowd, look out! 8^)

Kevin L has dyno numers. its a big increase. TPI is way better for 305 than TBI. The only way TBI would be better is if you took advantage of reving past where TPI falls on its face. but up to the same RPM, TPI should be a lot better.

GMtech did a carb to TPI swap. He didn't do any dyno runs either, all track before and afters.
