Should I buy this TPI system off Ebay???

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cg...item=593029100

I want to do my TBI to TPI swap...and I found this TPI system (minus computer and harness) on Ebay.....does it look good? Im thinking of bidding at $300. Would I beable to find something better elsewhere? Oh and I want to run Speed Density...that has nothing to do with the actual unit right? I just need a Speed Density ECM and Harness? Thanks.

Or could I go to a junk yard and just get the items myself for less? They will probably look like crap...but I can just polish everything right? Im in no hurry to do the actually conversion...i just want to have all the parts ready.

It doesn't look too bad. You need to decide how you want your TPI setup to be installed (i.e. MAF vs. Speed Density, cold start/non cold start valve, VATS/VATS delete, etc...)

Read this, and see if it helps any: TPI parts shopping

If you want to go SD, you can get the ecm from any 3.1 V6 Cavalier (and many other GM 3.1 V6 cars too). The harness can be purchased from Painless Wiring.

The chances of getting a TPI from a wrecking yard is not that good anymore. There is fewer and fewer of these cars on the road and you seldom see them in a wrecking yard anymore.

It's a nice looking setup. The cheapest route is to get the computer out of a v6 as stated above, then get a chip for it and go speed density. You're also going to have to block the cold start injector off, get a wiring harness, and some way to get clean air into it. You could prolly use the fuel setup off the tbi (relay/ oil pressure switch..)

Just something I noticed when I looked at it - it has been spray painted silver so who knows what it looks like underneath all of that paint..... You may also want to get a look at the mating surfaces of the intake just incase it has been marred severely.... Other than that, it looks pretty good. Not a bad price either........ Don't jump in and bid way high like that though...... ya gotta work the auction the right way to make sure you take it home and get a good price.

Good luck...

I wondered if It had been painted or not....but I couldnt tell...how can you tell? Besides the fact that its really clean (most ive seen are dirty as hell) I saw the front fuel lines and thought it looked like paint was flaking off or something...but wasnt sure if theyre all like that. If it is spray painted....should I strip it off and polish it myself...or leave the paint on? And when you say the matting surfaces of the intake...do you mean the base....or all places where there is a gasket? The guy seems to have a good bid history...but he is selling it for a friend...so who knows. Oh and does anyone know what does two holes below the TB and next to all those sensors are for? Maybe the Alternator or AC bracket or something?

In stock trim the fuel lines have that beige powdercoating that has a tendency to chip off. I thought it was polished...

If you do buy it, you need to find out how you are going to grind all of that silver paint off of the throttle blades and out of the plenum and the air passages, then clean off all the carbon that he painted over =)

The distributor cover is normally PLASTIC so it can't be polished like that, its just spraypainted silver. Other than the few missing screws and the couple dents, it looks decent.

I bought a tpi system from thirdgenpart.com off of ebay. Its the 91 speed density with computer and complete harness for only 600.00 and istalled it with no problems other than the vats system. I had to buy an after market chip for 100. Wiring is a pain but with some time its well worth it! I would keep on the look out for a better buy.

it also looks like someone paited the ports black, (water and vacum port thingys) so just make sure they are not clogged.

The two on the right are for coolant hoses. The one on the left with the brass fitting is the coolant temperature sensor.

I have a list of parts that I compiled that were needed for my TPI swap, you might want to check it out to see what you are in for.
