TBI turmoil
My 92 rs is running rougher than hell and it takes about 12-16 starts for me to even be able to hold the rpm's up for the car to warm up and when I do hit the gas you can obviously tell its pushing too much gas which is telling me the injectors are fried, but once the car gets warmed up it runs like a scalded dog. its like its either starving for fuel when you start or its flooding it but it eventually turns over and stays running. Advance and Autoshack both have gp sorrenson injectors for 72 a piece as well as all the gaskets and o rings and seals but the car has over 227K on the 305......

Re: TBI turmoil
thats pricey for the injectors you can get 19lb ford injectors much cheaper and are arguably more reliable than most all aftermarket.
btw i wouldn't swap injectors unless your 100% positive the engine has good compression on all cylinders with that many miles.
not that it probably doesn't but, it would be a huge waste....

Re: TBI turmoil
This car is TBI, as in Throttle Body Injection right? If so, wrong forum, but I can still offer you a little advice. TBI injectors hardly EVER go bad. My TBI car was experiencing almost exactly the same symptoms as yours some time ago. It ended up being the o-rings at the top and bottom of the two injectors. They get worn out after a lot of miles and allow fuel to leak past the injectors, instead of spraying through it in a nice even pattern. Basically, it causes the TBI unit to act just like an old carb when it's loading up and dumping way too much fuel in the motor. Before you spend a dime on injectors, get a basic TBI rebuild kit that has the gaskets, o-rings, fuel screens, and new regulator diaphragm. They run about 30-40 bucks at most parts stores. Make sure to use some kind of lubricant on the o-rings before re-installing the injectors. If you install them dry, you run the risk of cutting the o-ring. ATF works good for this. My TBI car had this problem at about 170K. It now has 240K on it, and it's ran perfectly smooth ever since replacing those injector o-rings. I wasted good money on a bunch of new sensors before figuring out the o-rings were bad.

Re: TBI turmoil
that sounds like a much better plan than shelling out over 200 for injectors, and the GP Sorenson kit for the car is 49.99 including the o rings, gaskets, diaphragm and all the parts so I'll rebuild it first. Thanks for the heads up on that one and I accidently hit tpi instead of tbi when I initially posted this

Re: TBI turmoil
Ok, I went to advance, pulled the injectors and the o rings were in good shape but I redid the entire thing anyway. also I put a FP gauge in the feeder line and at idle its getting 8 psi when I punch it, it drops to between 6 and 7 but it starts and cranks right up now instead of flooding or taking forever
Re: TBI turmoil
That's cool. It sounds like the rebuild kit definitely helped. Sounds like your fuel pressure is a bit on the low side. As long as it runs good, I don't think I'd be too concerned about it though. The only two things I can think of that might cause the pressure to be a bit low would be either a tired fuel pump or maybe the spring in the pressure regulator is weak. I've never actually put a gauge on mine to see what the pressure is since it's such a PITA to hook one up to a TBI system. The last time I replaced my fuel pump though, I went for broke and put a Walbro 255 in there. So even though I don't know the exact pressure, it runs great with that pump. Some guys worry that the 255 pump is too much for a TBI, but the stock pressure regulator keeps it in check just fine. You'll have to post up in a few days and let us know if the rebuild cured your problem or not.
