i want to replace that old peanut cam in my 86 but not sure about the duration and all. the engine is stock for now but i dont know what i am going to do to it in the future so i want something that is going to go good w/ like a new exhaust and headers and stuff like that. what about valve springs and stuff. also how much is it going to cost me to get this cam installed. i dont want to pay anymore than like 300 dollars in labor.

When I installed my LT4 HOT Cam, just for kicks, I called my local GM dealship and asked what they might charge to install a new cam on my car, and I was quoted at $800. So, if you don't want to do all the work yourself, then I would suggest starting somewhere other than a cam. Yes, with any cam you want to change your springs, seals, and retainers. If you decide to do this, the smaller SLP cam works get in my friends 89 IROC, but he has full mods, (exhaust, heads, ect).

I myself have been considering a Compucam2030. Since we have 86 engines, they are hydrolic flat tappets, not rollers, so many cams like the Hot cam and SLP one's suggested above wont work on our cars.

With the Compucam2030, this should give you a nice improvement, MUCH more once you install headers (my suggestion, start with headers first), and this cam will also be fully compatable with the stock computer and chip. Although an aftermarket chip would help even more.
