Hard Starting, but no CSI?

After checking the archives, it would seem 89 is the year to have if you don't want starting problems. What I'm picking up is that I don't have a Cold Start Injector, and a better computer from the factory. Why then, do I have to crank like all heck before it will get up and go? Sometime, it starts to wear the battery to the point of slowing the cranks, and at the last possible second, it pops. Any ideas?

I am having the same damn problem and I have been checking everything to no avail. I also have an 89 with only 20K miles. It runs like a dream but starting it is hell. It does not take too much time to get it going but I want it to kick over right when I hit the key like other cars. I think I'm going to try changing my IAC. I'm spent!
