Very low compression, need suggestions and comments on fixing the problem
Guys,
I have been having a lopey idle and fouling of plug #6 for ever since i can remember. I thought i tested the compression and valves with the leakdown. Well before pulling the superram off and changing the injectors and what not, I figured I'd run the compression test one more time on all 8.
1 120
2 115
3 120
4 110
5 120
6 110
7 110
8 100
Those numbers can't be very good.
I don't know what is in the bottom end of this motor. It was in the car when i got it.
I've also found a 69 4bolt 350 block that needs some work. I'm able to get the entire assemble for 200bucks. It needs cleaned something bad.
Does it sound as if the block needs rebuilt? I would like to get another block so i can get it prepped and ready so the car isn't down for quite as long.

Try putting some oil in the cylinders and check again and see if the compression comes up. Make sure your gauge is accurate too. Its either leaking past the rings or valves. It could be that the valves arent closing all the way, but I doubt it.
I'd check that gauge for sure.

Have you changed out the heads? Reason I ask is 64cc heads are 1/2 a point of compression less than 58cc heads and 76cc heads are a full point less than 64cc heads.
I'd do a leakdown and see what the problem is. If it seems like the valves are closing and the rings aren't excessive I'd look at what size chambers the heads are. Also maybe the valve springs need changing.

Heads are about a year old. Did a leakdown test on the values and they showed about a 1% leakdown which is great. Heads are 60cc heads also.
Any other Ideas?
Also, what about the 69 4bolt main block I found?
Could it be made to work or should I find a newer one if it comes down to needing to rebuild?

definatly go with the 69 4 bolt block for 2 reasons it came stock with a forged crank, pink rods, the downside is the two piece rear seal, don't plan on running a stick without a special flywheel, and it doesn't have provisions fora roller cam other than that it's a good score grab it anyway
