Does the Toyota supra use a T-56 transmission?

I remember hearing that the Toyota supras use the T-56. If so is this a compatible unit for a third gen?

Good Lord No!!!

Supras (at least all the 6speed cars 93+) run a VERY strong version of the Getrag 6-Speed. Just like the Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4. It's not factory authorized for service by ANYONE in the United States. It must be sent to Germany or Japan. The cases are sealed together and cannot be re-assembled once split. I recently was involved in the re-installation of one after it:

1. Came out of the 1300hp 94 Supra
2. Was sent to Florida to be completly disassembled an cryo-treated.
3. A box full of gears, carbon-fiber shims, titamium syncros, billet steel gears, and various other exotic parts was shipped out to be installed at Stillen
4. Trans sent to Getrag Factory in Germany for final assembly
5. Re-installation into said 230mph Supra, with Japan only "Spoon sports" race shifter.
6. Test drive. HE HE HE HE HE

Yeah, well I'm fed up with Getrag! I had to rebuild a 5 speed from a 3000 GT VR4, and there are no parts to be had! Damn Chrysler should think ahead a little (Stealth) before doing this crap to us! Don't put a car on the road that you aren't gonna get us parts for!

It ended up that just the blocker rings were bad, and we found someone in CA I believe that makes their own, and sell them for like $125 or 150 each. We needed 2.

Just me venting a little on the politics of it all!

Well, excuse the ***F*** outta me!!!!!!!!!!!

I answer the question and provide a little side story to try to provide a little validity. So that I don't look like I pulled the facts out of my ****. Thought that you might find it interesting, but I can see that I've found some REAL car guys who don't want to hear about exotic parts and fast rides. Man, I wonder why I even post up here sometimes. you guys and your 15 second cars think that you know everything. It's funny how you don't bother to tell this guy that he's wasting his time looking at supra tranmissions, and that someone gave him incorrect information. Yeah, IROC-Z_85, LeeH, Matt87GTA; your comments are totally useless and unimaginative at that. If you're going to try to flame and bash on me, atleast come up with something of your own. Or something funny. Have fun with your "gutted airbox, 305, and shift kit" I'll be making some real power. Good luck in your quest for 14.0's, I feel sure you'll get there about the time I'm breaking into the 9's.

JP84Z430HP, I appreciate you offering some useful information. And I hope you don't get bagged on for your personal story.

Supra trannys, autos mostly, are so heavy, exotic, and costly, that a lot of them are putting american trannys to replace them.

If I moderated THIS board the topic would be closed - and I still fail to see why thsi is posted on the TeePee Eye board.

Vader, you're right. I don't know why they posted it up in the TPI section. You'd think that the moderators would have moved it. It just pisses me off that I try to make a point and then justify that point. And these guys show up here like "ooh, I'm mister funny guy who doesn't have anything profound or even helpful to say so I'll just make my self look like the big man and rack up my post count while I'm at it." These three act as though they have an answer, but don't even have the WRONG answer. At least that would be smoething to argue over, if they would take a side on something. I have seen signs of intelligent life on this board, just look at the intake post that went on all weekend. Why can it not exist on all planes.....
