9th injector
9th injector
If I put a set of runners from a 89+ year car on my 85 and block the passage for the 9th injector is there anything else I will need to be concerned with? Will I throw a code? any disadvantages? I want that stupid thing out, but i dont want to ghetto rig it.
Thanks

I think you're asking two different questions. You've got a MAF TPI setup with an ECM that was only used in 1985. It expects to have the coldstart injector operating. From 86-89, a different ECM than yours was used. It took GM until '89 to figure out that the coldstart injector isn't actually needed, so only in that year did they actually offer a MAF TPI setup without coldstart. For an 86-88 TPI motor, you can use an '89 calibration in the ECM and eliminate the 9th injector.
For an '85 motor, I would think you would have difficulty starting a cold motor unless you upgraded to the '86-89 ECM (1227165) and ran an '89 calibration. If you don't want to go to all that trouble, it shouldn't hurt to just try removing it.. The 9th injector operates independently from the ECM and shouldn't throw a code.
Now, if you're talking about using '90-up runners, I've heard it said that the SD motors handle idle air differently, and the runners, plenum, and base are different than the MAF parts.
