what ya think?
My dream of my efi 355 is on hold! Baby on the way. I got a 87 tpi 305, Ive got a 89 350 cam and a set of freshly rebuilt(stock) 906 vortec heads, if I milled the heads to make up for the bigger combustion chamber and through that cam in with stock everything else would there be a decent gain from the o.e 305? Also would I be able to use those heads(once milled) on my 350 once its built in 3-4 years? thanks so much.

Re: what ya think?
yah the vortec heads are an easy 30hp increase. The cam is also probably a good 15+hp increase over the automatic 305s cam. If you have the 5 spd 305 lb9 then don't bother, that cam is just as good if not a little better.
btw yes you can still use the shaved vortec heads in your future 350 buildup but, your compression will be higher so use a thicker head gasket or use a piston with smaller sized valve releifs or a true flat top or such instead. Easy enuff to figure out once you know the engines full specs and have use of a compression calculator..
btw to help with the increased head flow, i'd also add a set of 1.6 rockers as the factory cam is still quite small compares to most.
either way though that'd be a fun 305 for sure g/l

Re: what ya think?
Congrats on the baby. When my wife got pregnant I had to abandon my Camaro and leave it in my parents pasture for 5 years. My son is now 4 1/2 and I'm just now able to throw a few dollars at it every now and then. Keep the dream alive. I had the opportunity to sell my car for $1000-$1500 several times in that stretch but I kept it in spite of how much that money would have helped. That money would be long gone by now and my car too. Good luck and hang in there no matter what you decide to do.
