1990 L98 engine trouble
1990 L98 engine trouble
yeah i know its not a dime, but im stuck... heres my issue...
Ok, a little background, i bought a 1990 formy 350 Tuned Port Injection off a guy... i bought it with the understanding that the ignition vats switch was bad.. fixed it.. and sure enough it turns over... thats where the next problem begins.. when it turns over it acts like it tries to fire but never does... if i slightly press the pedal it fires.. and runs sorta decently until i press the gas until around 2500 rpm and then it just cuts off... wont idle.. ect.. one problem im aware of is a short in the ignition wire right at the DIST. but if i mess with it itll work for a while... i just dunno where to start as far as getting it started and idling correctly.... the fuel pump was replaced... but seeing as HOW they replaced it im not sure if its the RIGHT fuel pump.... (idiots cut the trunk up instead of dropping the tank) so yeah any ideas? Btw its not throwing any codes.. checked it all .
well i checked all the wires to the ignition today all had continuity (spelling?) and the ohms werent anything out of the ordinary... heres the thing.. no matter how hard i tried to check it and get a reading... the coil just would not ding with continuity im pretty sure it means its bad as in the windings are broken inside?
right now im worried about the ignition.. then ill move on to the fuel system. ive checked my sensors, they seemed fine.

I think I'd check fuel pressure first. It's easy enough to do and will put the rest to bed if it's wrong.
Next, our cars are notorious for killing igintion stuff with heat. The pick up coil inside the distributor along with the module are normally dead by now and the ignition coil itself will not be far behind due to it's mounting location. They soak up so much heat that they destroy themselves. If you have wiring/plug issues you have to fix them first. They will give you the intermittent problem that makes you insane looking for problems that you can't find.

take the injector connectors off one at a time and then start it. if it doesnt start put it back on and go to the next one
if one is bad it will ground out the remaining 3 on that side of the fuel rail
