I was just curious on this issue. I already know that LT1 runs a reverse flow water pump and the induction is different. I also know that TPI was used on basic pushrod engines What I want to know is: What are the internal differences between an LT1 and a TPI? Are there any? Also, can LT1 induction be used on any post-86 block or are there only certain ones? The reason I am asking I guess is because I found a wrecked cop car out in the junk yard with a complete LT1. It was at a pretty good price and it certainly got me wondering. Thanks guys!

The LT1 intake and heads only work on the LT1 block. You could have them modified but its not worth the cost.

If you can get the whole engine for a cheap price, go for it. Keep in mind the Caprice LT1 has iron heads, the Camaro/Firebird/Corvette LT1 has aluminum heads.

Internally there isnt much difference. They can use the same cam, the same lifters, the same pushrods, the same rockers, the same pistons, the same rods, the same crank, etc. Its just the bolt pattern, distributor, and water flow of the intake and heads that is different.

Check this site out on The LT1. It Will Help Find Out If It's A "baby LT1 (265CID)" or The Real deal LT1 (350CID).
