heads and cam combo
Tell me what you guys think of this combo. Scoggin D's high performance rebuilt Vortec Heads (#SD8060) and Lingenfelter's Hyfraulic Roller cam (#74219). That is if Scoggin D ever comes out with the Vortec TPI manifold. Are there any other better combos out there for the money and that go with my mods below. I'll probably have a chip burned after the combo so PROM issues are irrelevant. Keep in mind that the intake will probably cost an extra $450. I really like the cam so if there are any better suited heads for it let me know. BTW I'm currently using 1.5 rockers. Any info would be a great help.

That 74219 cam is a single pattern cam. I would think the vortecs would work better with a dual pattern camshaft because the exhaust flow isnt that great on the vortecs.
Any other opinions? What about lingenfelters 74211 cam?

I think the AFR 190's or the LPE ported D port heads out flow the vortec's and you dont have to wait around for a new intake.

I agree. There are many other heads out there that are readily available, with the right bolt pattern, that are as good or better than the vortecs. Don't get me wrong, the vortecs (and/or fastburns) are very good heads - a friend of mine has them (untouched, out-of-the-box fastburns) on his low 10 sec N/A 406 Nova - but if you want to be able to buy the rest of your parts now, the vortecs are not the way to go.... There is also the issue of only one company making a TPI intake for the vortecs.... I wonder how much they will charge for that since they are the ONLY ones putting one out...hmmmmm

I was going to use my Vortecs on my motor but decided I couldn't hold my breath any longer. The Vortec's are good factory heads, but I decided to wait for some used AFR 190's or TFS heads. SD blew it, as many others, we've been waiting for over a year. The aluminum heads will allow me to run a higher compression ratio safely without detonating, anyway. Factory CR with Vortec is 9.4:1
