411 PCM with an LT1 intake

Has anyone done the 411 PCM swap on a 3rd gen using the LT1 intake? I was wondering how the vortec distributor fit with the LT1 fuel rails. I would like to see pics if possible. This is for a possible project.

Almost everything has been cleaned/re-routed from where it is in this pic
This was just to get it to fire up

Harness progress
Still need the vortec harness section

Will the 411 swap work with that distributor or are you going to have to change it? Keep the pics coming. This is something I have been considering to do with an actual LT1 to get rid of the optispark. Unfortunately this is competing with a possible Ford nine inch swap.

Re: 411 PCM with an LT1 intake

if you going to do that then look into fabricating the cam sensor lobe shape onto the opti(not sure how to describe it,but will need a machinists help.) then just repin for the 0411 and run the engine with an eom ls1 coil pack setup. you may look into a firing order swap so that the electronics dont see 1 side leaner than the other with the firing order confused. im not sure if that makes sense to you or not. its also something im doing with this car and if it works ill be doing it to my 96 caprice (soon to be 421 stroker).

I will have to use a vortec distributor
Fortunately they make a standard 'up' style as well as the OEM crab style

This is something I have been considering to do with an actual LT1 to get rid of the optispark.
The intake swap gives the gains of the LT1 without the opti, but I would consider the opti system a gain

hen just repin for the 0411 and run the engine with an eom ls1 coil pack setup. you may look into a firing order swap so that the electronics dont see 1 side leaner than the other with the firing order confused.
There is ALOT more to it than a simple re-pin
The firing order problem is easily fixed by moving the physical location of each coil pack

Re: 411 PCM with an LT1 intake

Here is what I would like to do. 0411 PCM on my LT1. Use a timing cover for a 96-97 with a vortec style crank sensor. Vortec distributor in the back for spark distribution and the hall effect sensor. I am not sure about the coil packs yet. If I can find another way to make a cam sensor work I may hook everything up like an LS1.

Re: 411 PCM with an LT1 intake

Since you already have a LT1 Id go with a ODBII LT1 harness, this is pretty much the reason people go for the 411 PCM

If you're still dead set on the 411, Id swap in a Gen I SBC and go from there

I highly doubt a vortec Gen I timing cover will even fit on a LT1 and do LT1 blocks even have a distributor hole in the rear?

There are kits to replace the opti with a conventional style distributor thou

Re: 411 PCM with an LT1 intake

I wouldn't need the Vortec front cover. 96-97s have a place for a crank sensor. I am wanting to ditch the opti for good. I want to find a way to run another type of distributor. This will come in the form of a 411 swap with the vortec distributor, 411 swap with coil packs or a modified rear mount distributor with opti internals inside. There is no hole in the intake, but it has the same hole in the back of the block as all small blocks.

Re: 411 PCM with an LT1 intake

I cant find the actual part but its a conventional distributor mounted on a machined plate running directly off the cam

This is similar but not what i was talking about

This deleted the opti and uses coil packs like you were wanting
http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/in...ROD&ProdID=956

This one uses LS1 style 1 per cyl

Re: 411 PCM with an LT1 intake

Here is a LT1 converted to a conventional rear distributor
http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showth...ht=opti+delete

I think you're doing a good bit more work than you need to just to get rid of a part thats not really a bad thing
But, its your car, do as you will to it

Re: 411 PCM with an LT1 intake

I have looked into both of the conversions you posted(LTCC & Delteq). The LTCC is a very good idea, but cost is preventative. The Delteq is currently having problems with customer support. I have a brand new opti on my car. I originally wanted to do away with the high voltage side and run a rear mount distributor. The vortec style was chosen because there are a lot of them out there and they are essentially empty inside. The high voltage and the rotor are the weak points of the LT1 distributor. I could do that swap for about $80. The 411 swap came about because of all the tuneability availible for this PCM. This is not set in stone, this is research. Before I turn the first wrench, I will know as much as possible about the possitive and negative aspects of the swap.
