What do you think of this deal ?

I have found a 1992 GM L98 350 TPI complete motor, still in the crate at a dealership. I am not sure why they still have it. They want $4,000 for it, what do you think ?

Seems pricy, I think for around 4K you could do the following:

running Junk yard Car (complete with L98 Engine) $1000
To rebuild the Engine, figure around $1000 depending on condition.
install a performance cam, $250
Some other special things you wanted to do,
get stainless headers & stainless cat-back for around $1000.

Keep in mind if your doing a conversion, you can pick up TPI intakes from E-bay for under 6-800 all day long. Get yourself a crate engine long block w/o intake for around 2500.

still have money left over for the other things you need, like Fuel Pump, wireing harness, ECM etc..

In short, I think there are better options out there.

That is kind of what I was thinking. What crate engine is set up for the computer friendly roller cam needed for my 1990 Camaro. I don't mind putting a different cam in, but I have not found a crate engine already machined to accept the roller cam and my local machine shop does not do this. Thanks for the reply.

Scoggin-Dickey http://www.sdpc2000.com/ has the ZZ4 for $3399.50, quite a bit lower than the $4000 your local dealer wants. And it's 355 HP too. If you want to spend all of the $4000 on a motor they've got a fastburn 385 HP 350 for $3899.95, but you can't run a TPI atop it without some work (hello miniram-III!)

And both are set up with hydraulic roller cams from the get-go.

The ZZ4 options sounds very interesting, this site has a lot of people running this motor, but I don't know if I have seen a user with this motor and a TPI system on top of it. Do you know of any articles on this or can someone lend me some help on what I would need to do. Thanks.

Found a wrecked cop car awhile back. The junkyard wanted $600 for the entire running engine(LT-1) . Thought I would throw this in for reference.

The ZZ4 is made for TPI and TBI isn't it? It should be a direct swap.

The ZZ4 was designed for a Carb setup. I know Mike Davis used his ZZ4 with TPI. He has had great success with it.

Check his page out.

The ZZ4 is an easy swap but there are a few things to deal with but not bad. I have seen several N/A ZZ4 TPI cars run solid 12's. I hope to do the same but I got N2O just in case.

I got the ZZ4 and love it. I just ran 13.7 w/ my mods in mysig. I'm still running the stock injectors and intake off the original 305. The only problem I ran into was the 4 bolt holes in the center of the intake manifold. They had to be oblonged because of the AL- heads. I still got the stock gears as well. The power difference was night and day. I love it. Need more help? Post it or email me. tharney@erols.com
