Removing the black plastic heater control value/diverter
Removing the black plastic heater control value/diverter
I finally got around to performing the hot water throttle body bypass on the IROC. As luck would have it I broke that diverter. Its the black box that is just off the throttle body that has the hose going into it and has two 1" hoses and one 1/8" hose coming out of it. Well any way, do I need to have this box I would like to clean up things under the hood. Also what does this box do for the car? Also, what does the third hose do (1/8 dia)?
water diverter vavle...does exactly what its anme implies. diverts water from heater core directly back to radiator when heat is not selected in the car. (so you dont get hot air coming into the car) so it comes out of intake and ends up going right back to radiator. the small line (looks like vacuum line?) is exactly that it is a vacuum operated valve and that is why if you listen to your car when you turn heat on or off you can hear the vacuum (least i could on mine)
if you disconnect it then it will not work.
as for getting rid of it, not unless you dont want heat, or want heat all the time. i am looking into getting a different one the has no vacuum and has a cable instead. i know some little cars like honda use them and i am just gonna open the hood if i ever need heat in my car, cuz i dont plan on hooking the cable to it.
also i broke mine too when i took it out, i think they get brittle with age. but it wasnt expensive at the dealer, and you can probable pick one up at a napa store or other parts store
