Tips for Hiding Wiring
Tips for Hiding Wiring
Hey guys,
I'm about ready to start the re-assembly of my TPI for my 68 Camaro. Sine this is a show AND go car, I'm looking for tips on hiding the wiring that normally runs along the top of the valve covers. Has anyone run them tight under the upper plenum? If so, how? I'm looking for any and all tips. Pictures would be a bonus.
Thanks,
Roy

57 chevy guys do it all the time. I dont think the stock harness on the passenger side will allow it (so you'll probably have to lengthen some wires) but the common thing to do is spin the injectors around so they face the other way. Losing the cold start valve if you have one is another good idea. PCV hoses are messy no matter what you do, but a hard line running between the PCV and plenum is entirely possible and makes it look a little cleaner.
Thanks Madmax,
I was wondering if I could install them backwards but didn't know if there was room. Lengthening wires is no problem (if needed). I'm not only using the motor and tranny from an 89 GTA, I'm using the factory wiring harness as well. I've already had to cut, slice, lengthen, or shorten dozens of wires already (All connections are soldered and covered with heat shrink). Any idea how they secure the wiring under the plenum? Do they just leave it in the loom and lay it on the lower intake?
thanks,
Roy

You could just lay it on there, thats all the factory does when they lay it on the intake/head/valvecovers. If you wanna go even more crazy, you can run the wires through metal tubing and polish the tubing
Some aftermarket manifolds and runners as cast wont allow you to spin the injectors and hook them up, but that can be remedied in all the cases I have seen.

Ooohhh... polished stainless steel tubing... The big problem would getting the wiring out for the injectors. I'm definitely going to look into reversing the injectors. Since it a stock system, maybe it'll work.

I don't have the exact pics you're looking for, but this is a very recent picture of my 355 TPI that's sitting on my S-10 frame. The wiring is all attached and the fuel injector wiring is all under the plenum. I left the injectors facing out, but just turned the connectors around and plugged them in. It's a tight squeeze, but everything fits nicely. I did not have to lengthen wires. Sorry the pics aren't very detailed to what you want to see.
