Advancing timing on a TPI

I have a Hypertech Thermomaster Chip and I know that it is supposed to advance the timing. If I advance the timing with that chip what will happen? I want to advance the timing as far as I can without any pinging.

Once advanced, will the it idle higher or will the chip take care of that?

The chip should not affect your idle. Also the most possible timing is not always the best, alot of people seem to be running 36 to 38 degress of total advance.

With an off the shelf aftermarket chip you should NOT advance the timing from the 6* stock. These chips only do WOT modifications so any ping will not be detected till you floor it, and will probably not be heard. Also if the knock sensor detects any knock it will pull a lot of timing out just to stop the knock which will hurt performance.

you could advance timing maybe. it really depends on the car. if flooring the throttle in second and right at the highest rpm rev you should hear a ping right before the shift into third. if so then you are timed right with your perspective chip. don't for- get to diconnect the cables off of the distributer or the chip will adjust for the advance.

If you advance the timing to far, you won't get ping because the knock sensor will take more timing out... And since it takes out more timing to stop detonation than is benificial, you will run slower.

If best time is 36 degrees and you go 38, the computer may pull out 4 degrees or more to stop the ping, therefore you're no at ideal. Also you will get hesitation...
