Hi guys just wanted to know what is the usual life span of an original fuel pump on a TPI car?...reason why I ask is that I still have my original fuel pump on my 88 Iroc(I am the original owner of the 88)....shocked?...me too....Knock on wood my pump is still kicking ......Since 1997 I have been storing my car in the winter time and bring it out for spring and summer driving..

 

there not set time limit on pumps they go at different times. basically then only thing atm i can think of thatll seriously shorten the pumps life is to run low on gas. id say below 1/4 tank of gas and youll be shortening its life. the gas cools your pump and if you dont have enough itll just get hot and eventually burn up ive seen it happen on so many kinds of cars its not even funny. other than that itll just happen randomly if it gets tired. no way of knowing until the symtoms show up.

 

225k miles on my '88 and mine just went out! I'm thinking of doing the Walbro 225 lph on it as I want to go 383 the next time.

 

My TBI pump went out at 180k miles. It looked original.
