PLEASE HELP with my AFPR installation

I decided to install a Holley AFPR while replacing my EGR valve. I have never had any problems with the original. After I got it installed, I tested for leaks by turning the key to the start position. My pressure now slowly goes down on my gauge after my pump stops. I know I installed everything correctly. Why would this happen and is it normal? Should I remove it and replace my orignal AFPR?

Well, I went ahead and installed the original again. Same thing happens. It drops about 1 pound a minute and then seems to hold at 25psi. Is this bad? Perhaps this is why they use the tamper proof screws. Maybe it does do damage if you remove them. Please give me some advice...

Mine does that same s#@$ and I'm fooling with my second Holley AFPR now. I'm getting ready to try the stock one back again tomorrow since I never had this problem with the stock regulator. $80 piece of junk, if you ask me .

Not to insult your intelligents, but did you turn the key to "on" then "off" about three times to build up pressure? What does the pressure read when you first turn the key? I have the same piece of junk and it works fine. Does the car run? How does it run? Is your pump OK?

It only took 1 turn of the key to build up 45 PSI of pressure. Then it slowly goes down about 1 pound a minute. I do not have the runners and plenum on yet cause I want to get this straightened out before putting it all back together. I put the stock regulator back on and it does the same thing. If I pinch the return line, the pressure stays which leads me to believe that the regulator was screwed up. I should have left well enough alone. I think I'm going to have to replace the whole regulator now.

Get yourself a new diaphram. There's a chance you damaged the old one when you took it apart. Besides, the old one is over 15 years old. Time for a new one anyway.

I can't get the pressure to hold unless I pinch both lines. Never had this problem with the stock regulator, it held pressure for days. 2 Holleys later and still fighting it, and I'm certain I installed it per the directions.

I did not think you could just buy the diaphram alone. Anyone have a part number?

Update: Installed the old GM regulator and it holds pressure like a woman with severe PMS. The SECOND Holley was also leaking. I noticed that the valve disc on the holley diaphragm is smaller than the GM, and does not have a pivot. I suspect this has something to do with it. Once again, I had to wash a bunch of aluminum chips out of the new housing of the Holley when I got it, and it was stuffed in the same bag with the diaphragm. IMO, Holley should be placed on an all-carb diet. Everyone who has had luck with this AFPR, more power to you, and check your fuel pressure again just to be sure . I'm sending this one back for a refund. Just my $0.02.

I just had the same experience. I also put on the stock regulator and the same thing happened. It held pressure much much better. I'm going to return the Holley as well and then I'm going to replace the entire Pressure Regulator because they do not sell the diaphram alone. It will cost less than the aftermarket holley anyway!

I bought a diagram (re-build kit) at a local parts store. As for the Holley, why not use your factory diaphram? I have a Crane AFPR on mine, and it didn't even come with a diaphram. I had to use to factory piece.

RCR,

The two diaprams look completely different in the Holley and the original. The diaphram and spring are all one peice and it doesn't look like it comes apart. The reason I changed my regulator in the first place was because when I removed the vacuum line, I smelled gas. I thought perhaps the diaphram was leaking. I'm going to just replace the entire regulator. It will cost a little less than the holley unit and I really wanted to keep everything original. If that doesnt do it then I'll hope for the best. Thanks for the replys.
