are these good head for the money..

i have a set of heads available, they are aluminum l98 CNC cleaned and milled.they have a 2" intake,1.56" exhaust, and have screw studs and big springs. he says he has made 310 rwhp on his vette with them. they are 55cc chamber. my motor is a stock 5.7 for now, but heads and a cam are just around the corner. What do you think, he wants $750.00 for them. the cam i am looking at is a 211/219 .499/.525 @1.5,LSA of 112. your opinions are welcome THE SHAGGY IROC

If they are indeed CNC ported (by whom? to whose specs?) then for $750 they might be a good deal. If you're really interested, I'd find a local head porting shop and pay to have them inspected... if the seller is on the level he'd probably split the cost with you. You want to have the valves measured, know the condition of the seals and guides, how much lift they can handle, what the specs on those springs are, and if the head shop does indeed believe that the heads were CNC ported.

New L98 'vette heads with 58cc chambers, screw-in studs and 1.94"/1.50" valves.

you'll see if they were cnc'd by looking into the intake runner or exhaust port on stock heads there is a lot of casting flash left in there so much to the point where you cant clean it up without extensive work.IMO i would ask him who did the work and if it's local say let's take a ride over there to have them look at it,if he objects ditch him or beat him in the head for trying to beat you.(don't do this near a police station)just kidding(about the police not the beating)

Well, those heads are about the same price as world products s/r torquers, and are probably better heads, especilly since they're aluminum. But the one thing that concerns me is the 55 cc chambers, those are awfuly small. I think the stock chambers are 64 cc, so it's going to raise your compression up pretty high.

It's OK to raise compression with aluminum heads as they dissipate combustion heat much more quickly than iron. However, I'd rather have 58cc in those 'Vette heads.

My nifty little online program says it will raise your compression by about 1.5 points. For aluminum heads with that size valves that is a decent deal. That cam looks somewhat like the LT4 HOT cam, I've seen people make good power out of that combo. The LT4 cam is 218/228 .525/.525@1.6r 112.

If they are relly cnc ported, than $750 is a decent price(in my opinion). As for the S/R Tourquers, you can get them fully assembeled and shipped for under $600 from www.competitionproducts.com
