Adding carb return spring on TPI

Ok, I want my pedal to be a bit harder than your average corolla one that I have now. The pedal is just too soft for my liking. I asked this in general forum but only got answers to use a carb spring.
I am not sure how, and if you guys have any idea, and even better any pics please let me know.

Just wanna make the pedal a bit stiffer.

Re: Adding carb return spring on TPI

I have a stick-shift so I added one where the TV cable would be on an automatic.

Edit: This is a very old picture before I added the siamese runners.

Re: Adding carb return spring on TPI

Thanks for the PIC.
I found out how to do it today. Since I have an auto I had a problem trying to hook it up anywhere around the linkeage. I think I have few places where it can attach, but I used the alternator instead. It doesn't look as bad as it sounds. LOL. I just drilled a tiny hole in the alternator right where it bolts to the bracket. The hole is not even noticeable. Than I hooked the other end to the clip that hangs over the throttle cable housing on the bottom of the linkeage. That seemed to work great. There is a bit of binding when you go full throttle but its not a problem since it only slips over the linkeage a bit.

I got the spring a bit too tight so when I drove the car home my leg got tired. So, I adjusted it and it feels great now.
I will post pics as soon as I can.

Thanks for the help.

Don't mind the crappy install, I didn't trim the spring to look pretty because I was adjusting it.

When you get the spring DO NOT CUT IT. Fit it first, drive your car and see how it feels. Get it set first before you cut it. I found my spring at advanced auto and its one of the stiffer ones.
Its MOTORMITE 59003, Diameter 29/64", Coil lenght 2", overall 9", diameter .054"

Thats one of the many that I tried that gets my foot satisifed.

Re: Adding carb return spring on TPI

your going to want that spring angle better. like more straight on. I would hate to hear about the binding and a stuck full throttle. instead of in front of the throttle do it from behind like carb setups.

Re: Adding carb return spring on TPI

Already tested. This binds just a tiny bit, but does not get stuck on anything. Trust me, that was the first thing that I looked at. If you look at the automatic linkeage there is really no place to hook the wire without binding on the linkeage once you go past half throtle. The whole bottom of the linkeage goes up right inbetween the accelerator cable and the TV cable. The angle is actually not bad at all, and it was the one with minimal bind. Just look at the linkeage and you will see the problems.

Re: Adding carb return spring on TPI

I took the spring off today, I will try to figure out how to keep it on the linkeage. While it works where it was its just not esthetically pleasing to me. So. I'll post up pics once I figure it out.
