Intake install question (i LOVE winter :P)

Hi again,

Its a winter wonderland up here in northern NY, and i have a question regarding the installation of my newly ported edelbrock intake/runners. due to the cold and my outdoor workspace, will i have any issues swapping my intake? will i have any seal/gasket issues? i am trying to get her back up and running by the end of this month, and it seems like the winter is lasting an eternity. my concern is that if i apply the correct torque to the bolts now while the metal is cold.... will i then have an over torqued condition when the block and intake expand with the heat? i don't wish to crack/warp/damage my new parts, or have vacuum leak issues when i fire her back up... so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

thanks, you all rock

Jason

No issues, reassemble

Just dont fire it up for a day or two to let the sealant setup

It may be obvious but, keep your sealants inside and warm until you are ready for them.

gotcha... thats kind of a last minute thing anyhow... i will keep the intake warm untill the block and heads are prepped and ready too. is there an rtv type that i should be using in this case? obviously the sensor safe stuff, but should i use black, blue, red?

another question, gasket related: edelbrock has that gasgacinch intake gasket goop they recommend be used when installing an intake gasket. what is that crap actually (generic name of the substance), and is that something i can get a generic brand of at napa or autozone?

Re: Intake install question (i LOVE winter :P)

Just use the old style RTV
Its worked fine for decades

Light bead on both sides of the gaskets and a heavy bead on the china walls
Lay the intake down strait and dont wiggle it around trying to find the holes, if you miss, pull it back up and reapply the sealant especially around the water jackets

Let the bolts to the squishing
