89 Iroc Conv-stalling
89 Iroc Conv-stalling
305 TPI, stalls with no warning mainly on low rpm such as stopping or idling or right after start-up. Has stalled at highway speed and trying to pass someone. Sometimes will keep running if you drive with 2 feet to up the rpm. Weather plays no factor, hot or cold motor plays no factor. Idle rpm is around 550. Replaced computer twice, MAF, O2 sensor, injectors, battery, cleaned throttle body, checked fuel pressure, vacuum leaks, ignition coil, replaced key ignition tumbler. Still has problem. It will stall for 3 - 4 days and then will be fine for a week. Has been at mechanics for the last 3 weeks. Computer has no codes in it. Tried to take it to the Woodward cruise and it was disasterous. Stalled constantly when I hit the bridge to the US. So it now sits at the mechanics with everyone dumbfounded. Anyone have any ideas before I leave a lit cigarette in the thing. Cannot sell it the way it is operating.
when it stalls, will it start back up? might want to put a fuel pressure gauge with a long hose on it, tape the gauge to the windshild and see if you have fuel pressure when veh. stalls. maybe your fuel pump is going out? need more info. best of luck, tom

I have battled the same thing. Mine was the fuel pump and the sending unit was cracked and leaking air. If it is the sending unit, get one at a junkyard, the new ones hurt the pocket book.
Good Luck

Somethinge else to consider......
Check ALL of your grounds. One on the back of each head, one under the dash on the drivers side in particular. My car had a similar problem, would just quit, right out of the blue. Seems one of the bolts for the ground on the back side of the passenger head (the one that is the hardest to get to.....) had worked it's way loose. Hit a little bump, or step on the gas too hard, and it would break the circuit, and the car would die.
Just a thought.....
Good luck
