Code 22 and 34...fixed IAC, now car is too hot
Code 22 and 34...fixed IAC, now car is too hot
Hi, i was having some problems with my idle, so i replaced my IAC, and set the TPS to .54v @ idle.. No problem...but now, my car will get up to 220* when sitting still or just cruising around town..It drops back down to 180* on the highway, and before i took of the TB to clean it and install the IAC, it had NEVER been above 180*..So, i have searched the boards and the archives, and i am puzzled as to what could have happened..Do you think it was a direct result of something happening during the IAC change, or just bad luck, and something totally different happened..Maybe CTS,thermastat or radiator cap..Airdam is there...How would i go about checking if the fan relay was bad, or if the fan itself is bad??? Well, thanks a lot, and i hope between this problem and the set of tires i have to buy, it isnt too expensive..

what do you idle at? this may sound weird but this is what happened to me like 2 days ago...
Set my TPS and IAC was idling a bit high in park around 1100-1200...figured ahh thats ok...well it wasn't...idling at around 750-900 in drive was too much...my temp shot up big time...so perhaps backing off on the idle a bit may help...i set mine to idle at 750 in park and 600 in drive

well, my idle is good, right around 650...I bought a thermostat(180*)today but have no time to install it till the weekend. My fans are coming on just as they are supposed to..I really hope it is only the thermostat, would save me ALOT of grief..Thanks for the responses guys...

My question is what did you fix, not break?
You're engine is acting normally, stock ECM temp to turn on the primary fan is about 235 degrees and off at 220 degrees, secondary fanswitch temp is on at 242 degrees.
Unless someone has changed the EPROM or secondary ganswtitch, everything is normal.
Only oddity is the 180* cruise temp on the highway, stock Tstat is 195* usually.
Your gauge could be off...180=195 and 220=235 would correspond to stock setup
