Replace Injectors?
Replace Injectors?
Hey Guys,
For the past month I've been messing around with my car trying to get it to run at more than an idle. I've done a tune up (rotor,cap,filters,etc..) and checked the specs on as much as possible, (Tps and Iac good, fuel pressure fine, egr good, no vac leaks, intake cleaned, no codes thrown by the computer). Sometimes at startup the car will run fine for a few minutes then it will start to bog and may stall. Other times it will barely idle and if you try to give it any gas it stalls.
I finally broke down and took it to a local auto center Friday. They did an engine diagnostic and came up with the result that some of the car's injectors (6 out of 8) weren't given the proper ohm readings, and therefor working poorly or not at all. They said that all injectors should be replaced. I pulled the car back home to plan my next course of action since their price for repairs was pretty steep...
I'm wondering how many of you have had similar problems with injectors failing or not working. Or for this many to be bad at once? The motor is a stock 5.7 with 37k miles on it. Bad gas doesn't seem to be the culprit with how erratic the engine has run(good then sometimes not at all) since this problem showed up...
Also how long does(or can) it take for a novice to swap in a new set of injectors?
Thanks for your help, these message boards are great!

I was just talking to Rich at cruzin performance the other day cause I was planning on sending in my injectors, and he told me to OHM test them first because these injectors have a very high rate of failure...He said that they are cooled by the fuel but that the gas eats the coating on the windings or something and they short out.
I have replaced injectors once before and it took a while, but it wasn't really all that hard, I took pics before and while I was doing it to be sure I got everything back together right and whatnot. I didn't really know what I was doing before hand either, But it is pretty clear what to do once you're in there.
You might want to look into Accel injectors, much cheaper than a lot of others

I had the exact same problem. I bought my car with 38K miles and it was running rough. Now and then it would die at a stop-light. I had it diagnosed and was told seven injectors were bad. I bought a set of the Accel 24lb injectors from Jeg's. I haven't put them in yet though.

Get those things outta there! Same thing happened to me, only at 99K miles. I originally had the Multec style that Rich at CruzinPerformance said are much more failure-prone than the Rochester style. Luckily I had 8 spare Rochester ones from a previous setup that I had cleaned&flow matched by Rich for about $100. Not too bad to install, worst part is shelling out $30 for gaskets. You might want to look into the SVO injectors from ford. Good luck.
Thanks for the info guys! I've ordered up a set of Accel injectors that should be here on Thursday. Looks like I've got my weekend project all planned out. Time to get this car running before summer's over!

Hi all this is my first time on this forum. I usualy hang out at the Vette forum. But I totalled my Vette and I'm now looking to buy a 87-92 Camaro Z-28 So I'm going to hang out here to learn about them.
I had the same problem on my 90 Vette L-98 I was told it was the M.A.P sensor so I replaced it. Same problem persited. Then I was told by the GM dealer it was a bad injector. So I ordered the ford SVO 24# injectors from summit and intalled them. Same problem. Then I started from scratch I started one plug at a time. It turned out to be one of my recently installed wires, the first one on the passenger side. Which is a pain to get to and hard to see, but when I felt it, the wire was touching my exaust manifold and burned to the center. I replaced the wire and the car ran perfect. So apperantly the dealer wanted to screw me, like all dealers. So, my suggestion is to start from scratch first check spark then check fuel one at a time. It will save $ in the long run.

Try in Canada where 1 injector will cost 130 to 195 dollars depending on who you know. You need to take out a small loan to repair these cars up here. I have resorted to doing my own injectors as they fail. Like to find out where you get your parts for that price. I would buy a set and replace all of mine.

www.jegs.com also list them, but Rich at Cruzin is a standup guy and has helped many on this board.
