My brother has an '86 IROC. The smog pump bearing started making a lot of noise and has a fair amount of play in it. I took off the smog pump belt temporarily until he buys a new pump. Will this affect the drivability of the car in any way?

 

No. Some of us aren't even running a smog pump.

 

other than possible increased emissions no. i have removed the air pump on two ta/,s and had no ill effects. be sure the belt isnt driving any other needed accesories like ps or anything driving a car w no ps is no fun good luck

 

Ok thanks folks. I didn't think it would be any problem. My brother is just paranoid and thinks it'll mess something up. Also, that particular belt only runs the smog pump.

oh and trust me my powersteering pump bearing went out while driving and caused all my other belts to get knocked off, so i drove w/out ps for 3 days last year.
