I hate auto shops

Well I had my car serviced for a oil change and for them to check my brakes. i get a call today saying brakes need to be replaced and suspension needs parts. I said "greeeeat, do it" I go to pick it and I see the price $150 for parts, not bad, $250 labor and taxes. WoW

I dont care about the parts, I thought that was cheap. The labor sucks though.

Yep, my GM dealer gets $82 per hour...labor is almost always more than the parts.

My father tried to put it in perspective for me, explaining how much it costs to run a large business. Still doesn't feel good paying that much, though. But, if you can't do the work yourself for whatever reason, what are you going to do?

Yea I could have done the brakes at my school and the oil change. Bus the suspension I had no idea it was loose. Car drives smoother though

That's what you get for taking your car to the shop for an OIL CHANGE.

Re: I hate auto shops

I took my old car to a shop once, to have the loose tilt steering fixed. I didn't have the tools to do it myself at the time. Cost me around $100 in labor, and it as loose again after a couple months. I learned my lesson, and got another column from the junkyard, and never had problems again. I only take my cars to the shop for things I absolutely can't do at home (alignment, exhaust fab work, tires).

Thats how I would like to be, but I depend on my car sometimes and I cant handle the down time and the time it would take for me to do everything. so a shop is sometimes the best option

It is cheaper than a tow bill, plus a bad tire, rim, body parts, and suspension parts, when the ball joint breaks.

Actually, it only took me an afternoon to get the new column from the junkyard, and get it swapped in, it was pretty easy. The shop had my car for a couple days to tighten the tilt mechanism, because they were so busy.
