What else could it be?

My car is incredibly hard to start when hot. In the morning, when it's cold, it doesn't even crank once and fires right up. If you leave it 5 minutes , it starts right up, but after 1/2 hour or so, hard to start again. When it's hard to start, I get a gassy smell and smoke out the exhaust, but not when it's easy to start.
When I took the plenum off just after shutting the car down, I could hear a "pulsating leaking/ hissing" noise coming from the runners. I covered one bank of runners, and I could still hear it from the other side. The noise got quieter and quieter as time went by and eventually stopped (I assume as the fuel pressure dropped to nothing).
It must be leaky injectors, right? what else could it be leaking into the manifold? The car is horrible on gas as well. I had an argument today with a guy at a parts store- he thinks I should take it to a garage or something, but I'm sure it's the injectors. Am I wrong? (sorry for the long post)
Thanks, Jeff

pull your plugs after the car has sat for about 30 minutes and see if they are wet with fuel. of course you will want to pull the plugs from the side the noise is comming from. sounds kinda like you are describing leaky injectors to me.
