cam timing
cam timing
I bought a new double roller timing chain for my car. At 100k i figured i better do it, anyway on the gear it says i can advance the cam timing 2deg. or stock timing or retard it 2 deg. What should i do. on my old 84 ta i advanced it 2 deg and it made a the car about a tenth faster but i dont know any thing about these computer cars. So what should i do for the best performance without messing up any of my computer stuff.
Thanks

Honestly i haven't heard too much of people bothering to play w/ cam timing on a stock cam thirdgen. Once most of us get into the engine that far it's cam swap time. Hell, we just had the front off my mom's olds 350 for the timing chain, and it was hard to resist the urge to slap a cheap cam in at the same time even though it has 170k miles and is only destined to run for a couple more months.
As you might already know, advancing the cam will build more torque, retarding it will build more HP. Experimentation is the only way to know for sure which will help you more, if any. Neither will make a big difference as far as the computer is concerned. Sure a custom PROM is always nice w/ any airflow mods, but this isn't gonna be any big difference.

- Definitely prototypes, high powered mutants of some kind. Too weird to live, too cool to die
